Operation Christmas Child (2023)

Operation Christmas Child is a Samaritan’s Purse program that provides gift-filled shoeboxes along with the Gospel of Jesus to children in destitute and war-torn countries around the world!

“The COVID-19 global pandemic disrupted everyday life for millions of people around the world. Yet, Samaritan’s Purse continues to share the eternal hope of the Gospel and to serve in Jesus’ Name. We want boys and girls around the world to know that God loves them and has not forgotten them during this time of fear and uncertainty. Children need great joy now more than ever. Most of all, they need the hope found only in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Will you partner with us to share the glorious hope with boys and girls around the world – many of whom have never heard the Name of Jesus?”

Resurrection Lutheran Church has participated in this loving program since the 1990s, collecting items and funds to fill shoeboxes as a youth service event. During this unusual year, to keep everyone safe and healthy, we will only be collecting pre-filled shoeboxes. 

  • Empty shoeboxes will be made available for pick-up in the church narthex.

  • Each box has directions and a boy/girl label for your use.

  • Please read through the directions prayerfully and carefully, fill the box, and return it to the narthex by Sunday, November 12th.

  • Please also include $10.00 per shoebox to cover shipping cost. 

Please Lovingly Fill Each Shoebox With:

  • TOYS: small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, small etch-a-sketch, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), slinky, jump rope, etc. 

  • CRAFT SUPPLIES: pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons, markers, coloring books, chalk, writing pads or paper, solar-powered calculators, stickers, rulers, etc.

  • PERSONAL CARE ITEMS: toothbrushes, bar soap (wrapped or in container), combs, brushes, hair clips, washcloths, adhesive bandages, reusable plastic containers (cup, water bottle, plate, bowl, blunt-edged utensils), non-liquid lip balm, nail clipper/file, stick deodorant, etc. 

  • ACCESSORIES: sunglasses, flashlight (with extra batteries), ball caps, socks, t-shirts, toy jewelry, watches, small picture books, blankets, flip-flops, bags/burses, hats, mittens, etc. 

You may also include a personal note & photo! 

Please, DO NOT Include: food of any kind, candy, gum, toothpaste, used items, toy weapons/war-related items, liquids of any kind (lotions, shampoo, nail polish, paint), aerosols, medicines of any kind (vitamins, cough drops, etc.), or any breakable items. 

When You Pack Your Shoebox:

  • please indicate the appropriate age group and whether it is for a boy or girl using with the label provided.

  • Lids should be secured with the rubber band provided.

  • Please place a check for $10.00 to cover shipping (made out to “Resurrection Lutheran Church”, with “O.C.C.” in the memo) in the envelope provided, and attach to the lid with the rubber band. 

All filled shoeboxes must be returned to the church narthex by Sunday, November 12th! Thank You!!!
